What is the difference between kick scooters and kick bikes?

Both kick scooters and kick bikes are human-powered vehicles, where the rider propels the vehicle by pushing with one leg at a time. However, there are key differences in their design and purpose.

Purpose:
Kick scooters are primarily designed for transportation, offering a compact and easy way to get around. They are ideal for short trips and city commuting. Kick bikes, on the other hand, are mainly intended for sports and performance, with a focus on longer distances and higher speeds.

Size:
One of the standout features of kick scooters is their compact size, typically equipped with wheels no larger than 12″. This makes them highly maneuverable and perfect for navigating crowded areas like sidewalks and city streets. Kick bikes, however, have larger wheels, ranging from 12″ to 26″. These larger wheels help with stability and speed, but 12″ wheels are generally reserved for the rear wheel of the bike.

Riding Position:
On a kick scooter, the rider stands upright, holding the handlebars in front, with their feet placed side by side on the deck for easy leg-switching while riding. Kick bikes, however, are designed with a more aerodynamic riding position. The rider leans forward, gripping lower handlebars, with their legs positioned one behind the other. To switch legs, the rider typically jumps from one leg to the other, a position suited for long-distance travel and minimizing air resistance.

Purpose and Terrain:
A kick scooter is ideal for short-distance travel, such as city sightseeing or riding alongside pedestrians on sidewalks. Kick bikes, on the other hand, are built for longer distances and are best suited for bike paths and more open roads.

Boardy: A Hybrid Between Kick Scooters and Kick Bikes
Boardy combines the best features of both kick scooters and kick bikes. It offers the compactness of a kick scooter with 12″ wheels, a foldable frame, and lightweight design. However, it also delivers the speed and distance capabilities of a kick bike. The riding position on Boardy is similar to a kick scooter, but with the added benefits of air-inflated tires and a manually operated rim brake, features commonly found on kick bikes.
